Greetings from sunny Majorca or Mallorca depending whose spelling you use.
Gills sister Mandy and her husband Chris kindly offered us the use of their boat for a week so here we are living the high life in a flash marina in a place called Portals Nous. The boat is quite large so we invited our friends Gael and Ray to join us so we can pretend to be rich brits hosting on our boat in the med. Once here no one will know we did not fly in by private jet but caught a Ryanair flight from Birmingham which cost £27! As the departure tax is £13 the flights only cost £14 each, that's £1 less than the 2 mile taxi ride to our hotel, no wonder they don't give free drinks on the plane. What is even stranger there is no discount for buying a return so we are flying Easyjet back to Bristol next week, I can never seem to get my head round airline pricing.
The aim of the week is to eat a lot of nice food, drink the odd bottle of wine and perhaps do a bit of walking in the hills, to take the boat out for a run will involve hiring a skipper and taking out a mortgage to pay for the fuel, I might become a supporter of the greens to avoid that sort of expense but we shall see.
As we arrived very late on Thursday we stayed in a very touristy hotel next to the airport on Thursday night (picture opposite), it was fine for the one night but it did remind us why we don't go on package holidays, it was very large and souless.

After a pleasant walk along the beach we had to get back to the airport to collect a hire car. We could have caught a taxi but Gill always tells me off for such extravagance so we decided to catch a bus. The local bus stop mentioned the bus 21 which goes to the airport and there were two girls who seemed to know what they were doing sitting on their suitcases waiting at the stop so we joined them. Several buses went past but none with “Airport” signs so eventually I studied the map and realised the one way street we were on was going in the wrong direction for the airport! Eventually we found the right stop, waited another 10 minutes and caught the bus, it was a flat fare of 5€ to the airport so 10€ in total, it would have been cheaper as well as quicker to have caught a taxi!

We are now safely aboard the good ship My Beauty whose air conditioning is very welcome as it is 29C outside and there is not much breeze, a little different from the wind and rain at home.
Last night we had a very good meal in the marina, tonight we will have a BBQ on board which should be fun, pictures of burnt sausages will be posted in tomorrow exciting instalment.
