I always put on weight on holiday as we like eating good food and trying out different restaurants wherever we go. Of course a long holiday means more weight, I have noticed my trousers getting tighter and I don’t think they are shrinking.

So to try and resolve this I suggested we walk to restaurants, have a big meal and then walk back. The Chipi Chipi restaurant is a couple of hours steep climb from Santa Cruz and is highly rated on Trip Advisor. Although I was a little concerned when I looked up the translation of Chipichipi, it means continuous drizzle and would you believe it, it was very misty and a little damp when we were eating our lunch.

We did the same walk in 2019 without visiting the restaurant and at the time thought the difficulty rating of 3 was a little low as it was one of the steepest climbs we had made, perhaps we did it of an off day in 2019. Oh no we didn’t, it was a very steep climb, I was sweating like a pig on the way up.
The picture above was taken from the top of the climb looking down on the city.

The restaurant only does meat on a huge BBQ (pictured) and it does it very well, it has been running for over 60 years, a bit of a La Palma institution.

The walk back is quite precipitous, good job we only had one bottle of wine.  It goes past a line of watermills which ought to be interesting if they were restored, they are the tall white buildings behind Gill.

I see from the BBC News that 150 people were caught having a wedding feast breaking the covid rules. The BBC tip toed round the ethnicity of the group, I suspect worried about being labelled as prejudiced, but eventually they reported the offenders were orthodox Jews.

A similar issue has occurred in the Canaries. The news has reported that a club was busted by the police in Gran Canaria, 18 people in an illegal gambling den. So they are to be prosecuted on two counts, covid rule breaking and illegal gambling. They won’t say the nationality of the people involved but I guess they were brits. Why? Because they were playing bingo!
