Our first walk and a bit of planning

What do true Brits do when confronted with blue seas and warm sunshine? We get on a bus which took us to the top of a mountain (3,000ft up) where it was wet, misty, very windy and a bit cold. We followed a walk from the book (Walk La Gomera) which was listed as energetic, almost all down hill and of 2 ½ hours duration. It was very hard on the knees, as ours are a little ancient it took us 3 ½ hours and we needed lubrication on getting back to our apartment which of course was basking in the sunshine and had been all day.

We are beginning to settle into holiday mode here in San Sebastian, yesterday we walked round the town, did the one and only museum and started to plan the holiday. One of the issues is what to do over Christmas itself. When asked the receptionist at our apartment said few restaurants would be open and they are “Very Dangerous” on account of covid. We like a bit of danger and I, being a grumpy old sod, hate Christmas but being restricted to an apartment for three or four days is unappealing.

So last night we walked up to the poshest hotel in San Sebastian for dinner as a practice run for Christmas. It came up trumps, the food was good, the atmosphere nice and even better they don’t seem to be planning anything special for Christmas so we booked for four nights over the holiday period.

We are staying in our apartment until Monday (the one horrid building in the picture of the town opposite) so having sorted Christmas have nine days to fill, tomorrow we will drive round the island to find one or perhaps two places to stay over those nine days. What we do after Christmas is anyone's guess.
