We are now officially stranded, all flights to and from the UK to the Canaries are banned for 14 days. Not that we intended to fly home but I guess there are some stranded Brits here. I don't suppose they will be terribly upset, 20-22c, no rain, nice food, cheap wine and an ulimited supply of toilet rolls (I see Tesco have started rationing them), perhaps we can make the ban last until Easter.
On our last day in Valle Gran Rey we tackled a mountain which we have viewed on all our other walks as it is a great lump of rock which stands out from every angle. See the picture at the top of the page.
In fact it looks impossible to climb from every angle but following some excellent directions in the “Walk La Gomera” guide we made it.
It is very much like climbing Trefan in North Wales, you wonder how the hell you will tackle the cliffs but the route takes you round a corner and a rock chimney allows you to scramble to the top. Great fun for old people like us.
We are now back in San Sebastian where we will spend Christmas in quite a posh hotel which used to be a convent. It has a nice relaxed feel to it and a lovely garden with a swimming pool although at the moment the wind is blowing hard so not ideal for sitting outside. On the plus side it is warm wind. We have now booked the ferry across to La Palma on 27th and will start looking for somewhere to stay.
We were a little worried as we arrived in the town as a huge cruise ship was parked in the harbour, the ship takes 3,000 passengers, the population of San Sebastian is only 8,000 so it could be overrun. Fortunately the ship is empty and has presumably just called in to get supplies for the crew.
