Gill organised a surprise holiday to celebrate my birthday, going away was not a surprise, it has been in the diary a while but the destination was not revealed until we arrived on Friday.
We are spending the weekend in Aberaeron in a very nice rental house directly opposite the hotel we stayed in last time we came here in October. The banner picture is taken from our bedroom window towards the hotel. We like the town very much as it has a bit of character, some good restaurants and of course is next to the sea, the only thing we miss when we moved from Sussex to Shropshire. The house is a 1950's bungalow which has been extended into the roof. On the many occasions we moved house if an estate agent had sent us a house like this I would have discarded it straight away, not sure why, just prejudice.
Now I quite like it, it is much larger than it looks, has three good sized bedrooms, a sitting room, a lounge and a nice conservatory, perhaps I am getting old and will be looking at bungalows in Bournemouth next!
The council are improving the storm defences for the town and on Sunday there was great excitement when a barge arrived with the stone to reinforce the beach. It came from France! Isn't Welsh stone good enough? Apparently the next batch will come from Norway. That will confuse geologists in a few thousand years time, French and Norwegian stone in Wales!
Aberaeron is famous for its brightly painted houses around the harbour, judging by the few which have lights on when we return from dinner each evening we suspect those in the prime spots are holiday homes.
Twice previously we have walked the coast path between Aberaeron and New Quay, this time we drove to New Quay and walked the next section of the path towards Aberporth, the coastline is spectacular but very up and down, a bit hard on our old knees. It was a bit risky coming to the Welsh coast in March but we were lucky, it didn't rain.
Back to hospital next week for the next blast of chemo then where next? Watch this space for news.
