Greetings from Audlem. We have now finished our excursion up the Llangollen canal and are back on the main Cheshire Ring.
Each canal has it’s own character, the Llangollen is very narrow in places and has some wonderful scenery and because of Thomas Telford's ingenuity, not too many locks. The weather was supposed to be better today but it was very windy, cold and there were plenty of showers.
That did not put the good people of Nantwich off as you can see in the above picture. It is mid summer so they eat al fresco just like on holiday in Spain except they are all freezing cold despite the short burst of sunshine.
Nantwich has some nice old buildings, a smart pedestrianised town centre with lots of shops but apart from a butchers and a fishmonger we could not find anywhere which sold groceries, people don’t come to town centres for the weekly shop any more.
We had a nice lunch in a French cafe which was quite expensive but on the plus side the waitress was pretty and had a very low cut shirt which made the person paying the bill very happy. In the afternoon we carried on the canal to Audlem which is famous in canal circles for the Audlem flight, not a flock of birds but 15 locks close together, which are then followed by another flight of 5 all of which we tackle tomorrow morning, fingers crossed it is not raining.
