We are now half way through our adventure and heading south, at least for a few days, and are now starting to plan a little more carefully what we will do, the snag with a canal boat is that it goes nowhere fast, we have to be back in Wolverhampton on 1st August, we could do it easily in a week but the intention has always been to add either a trip up to Chester and back or to Llangollen, we come to the conclusion we won’t have time for both so today having consulted maps etc we have decided to go to Llangollen. We used to live nearby and always fancied a trip along the local canal especially over the famous Pontcysyllte viaduct which is frightening enough on foot, it will be terrifying in a boat.
Today we tackled another tunnel, this one was ¾ mile long, to stop collisions any boats going north start on the hour, boats going south on the half hour. This means you go in convoy, in our case with five other boats each of which is pumping out diesel fumes which are added to the fumes from the previous convoy going in the other direction 30 minutes ago. Whilst the Harecastle tunnel had big blowers to suck out the fumes this one has no such luxury, I was feeling quite faint by the time we reached the end.
Sorry for the slightly sporadic updating of the blog, the Wi Fi on the boat does not work, even in the city, so we can only upload from the Wi Fi in pubs/restaurants. The snag is some block users from making ftp connections so it is sometimes a day before we can update the files.
