  • Wednesday 28th: Arrive in Kathmandu, have a few Everest beers (the local beer) and get an early night.
  • Thursday 29th: Catch a 6am!! flight to the most dangerous airport in the world, Lukla at 2850m.
  • Friday 30th: Acclimatisation day drinking tea and pretending to be a hippy whilst awaiting our medical team.
  • Saturday 1st: Medical team arrive, we walk 5.6 miles downhill to Phadking 2660m. The distance of each section seems to vary considerably depending on which guide you read but of course it is the climbing/lack of oxygen which is the real issue, not how many miles it is.
  • Sunday 2nd: Walk 4.6 miles from Phadking to Namche Bazaar (3435m), sounds easy but it is 3000ft of ascent.
  • Monday 3rd: Spend the day in Namche Bazaar drinking more tea and getting used to the thin air.
  • Tuesday 4th: Walk 7.5 miles from Namche to Tengboche (3890m)
  • Wednesday 5th: Walk 7.5 miles from Tengboche to Dingboche (4400m)
  • Thursday 6th: Walk 8 miles from Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m)
  • Friday 7th: Walk 3 miles from Lobuche to Gorek shep (5180m) (after lunch heading towards Kalapathar to see the sunset.
  • Saturday 8th: Gorekshep to Everest base camp and back to Lobuche, all downhill from now on!
  • Sunday 9th: Lobuche to Tengboche
  • Monday 10th: Tengboche to Namche Bazar
  • Tuesday 11th: Namche Bazar to Lukla
  • Wednesday 12th: Flight back from Lukla to Kathmandu
  • Thursday 13th: Sightseeing in Katmandu and rest day
  • Friday 14th: Yet more sightseeing and perhaps a beer or two in Kathmandu
  • Saturday 15th: A night in Istanbul
  • Sunday 16th: A quick visit to the Blue Mosque then on the lunchtime flight to Birmingham and home in time for tea.
