Northern Greece 2020

The rules about where we can go and whether we need to isolate on our return as well as the uncertainty about flights conspired to prevent us from having a holiday in August. We finally decided to risk the lurgy or, more likely, risk getting stranded, so booked flights to Greece and planned a tour of the north of the country. As John worked in Athens in the 1990's we know the bits of Greece near enough to Athens to visit on a day or weekend trip but have not explored the very north or west before so this trip could be full of surprises, we hope so.

We fly to Preveza on the west coast and plan to spend a few days on the "island" of Lefkada (it is not a proper island, there is a bridge). From there we head up into the mountains along the Macedonia border and then to Thessalonica for a bit of city life.
We then intend to explore the foothills of Mount Olympus before heading up into the mountains of Pilion, one of our Greek favourites. Finally we head back to the west coast via another "island" called Trizonia which is in the gulf of Corinth before heading home on 14th October.
Of course if Greece is declared unsafe we might just stay here for a couple more weeks, it will be warmer than home.
