The guide books are right, the beaches on Harris are even better than those on the other islands. The one shown opposite is called Losgantir and is supposedly one of the best in the world although I get the feeling the judging panel was sponsored by the Scottish Tourist Board.
We caught the ferry this morning across the Sound of Harris, the boat had to take a very meandering route between all the little islands and rock outcrops which added to the sense of adventure.
For most of the morning we had to keep the hood up on the Caterham which makes getting in and out a challenge and we are also a very high risk to other road users as the visability is zero. This afternoon the sun broke through and we are back to no hood but thick wooly hats.
We are now staying in a very flash (and expensive) B&B just north of Stornaway, tomorrow we will explore stone circles, ancient forts and a few crofts.
