Today we went to watch the Mighty Bees lose 3-2 to Altrincham, not a happy experience.

To start with I had come to Manchester expecting to stay in a nice warm hospital so packed a couple of pairs on pajamas, a few tee shirts but not much else.  So this morning I put on a pyjama shirt, two tee shirts and a proper shirt under a fleece  and rain jacket in order to sit on a freezing terrace but I was still cold.  Gill was fully equipped with gloves and a scarf.

Like all football programmes this one starts with the sentence "We would like to welcome the players, directors and supporters of Barnet to Altrincham" but to welcome the fools who have travelled 200 miles to watch their team they are penned into an area with no seats or cover in case it rains.  So being wise to this discrimination we pretended to be neutral supporters and sat in the Altrincham stand.

Unfortunately this meant we had to pretend to be pleased when after Barnet's defence were asleep a minute into the game Altrincham scored.  It got worst, we let in another two goals so with ten minutes to go we were 3-0 down.  Two goals in quick succession and suddenly those around us were getting a little nervous but regrettably they held on and we lost.

After the game we walked into town and had a very nice dinner to warm up and drown my sorrows.  I look quite smart but under that shirt are two tee shirts and my PJ's.

We have embraced the buses and trams of Manchester, particularly how Google maps show the route to take and the real time arrival of each bus or tram, to country bumpkins like us who only get two buses a day it is mind blowing.

The picture below shows the away end, no cover, no seats, and the goalkeeper is about 8 years old, I think he must be a directors son.
