Day 5 - Pontevedra

The picture above shows the "Roman" bridge across the river in Pontevedra. It is much the same as Triggers Broom, the bridge has supposedly been here for 2000 years but the pillars have been changed every few hundred years and the roadway has undergone many replacements but it is still "Roman".

One of the must see sights in Pontevedra is the local museum which is huge and must be one of the finest museum buildings in Spain.  The snag is they spent so much on the building they could not afford any exhibits.  There were three floors of not very good paintings, probably 1000 pictures none of which we would want on our walls, a few Roman and Neolithic artifacts but nothing impressive.  On the plus side it did not cost anything as it is All Saints day and all the museums are free.

The old town where we are staying is very picturesque with lots of squares surrounded by old stone houses, it seems very quiet so perhaps many of the houses are second homes. Getting to the hotel in the car yesterday was exciting, the sat  nav took us right though the old town down streets which don't seem to get many, if any cars.

The receptionist said "you should not have come that way" and we agree with him. We did go the wrong way down one street but that apart we did not see any no entry signs, I am not sure how you stand if prosecuted "We were just following instructions".

The pictures show the town deserted, it wasn't last night, the youngsters were still making a racket in the square outside our bedroom at 3am, it seems Halloween is a big deal in Spain.  Hopefully it will be quieter tonight.  I don't suppose the locals would have dared keep the original 16th century owner of the house awake, he would have sent a guard round to sort them out, we just hid under the bed clothes - cowards.

Tomorrow, if the weather is kind we are off to the seaside so stand by for pictures of fishing boats and tales of seafood in the sunshine (or perhaps chips in the rain).
