I mentioned yesterday that the Isles of Scilly had one famous resident, Harold Wilson, who used to come here on holiday and then he and his wife retired here in the 1970’s, he is buried on the island.
There is now another famous celebrity, Wally the Walrus who has been on tour since March visiting Tenby, France and Spain before arriving in St Mary’s a few weeks ago where he has caused a few problems bursting boats with his tusks. Walrus’s are protected species so no one is allowed to disturb him but he has set up home on the back of an ambulance boat right in the middle of the busiest part of the harbour where the ferries pick up passengers for the other islands.
Apparently experts are hoping to humanly scare him off using polar bear scent which they have gathered from a zoo but as he is a young walrus perhaps he does not know what a polar bear smells like or sees it as a threat. He probably feels at home here as it is quite cold and wet, we have had drizzle all afternoon and may have to don our waterproofs to get to dinner tonight.
