Malta & Gozo

We like to get away in the winter in the hope of finding a little sunshine.  We had planned to go to Morocco but came to the conclusion that would be rather unadventurous as we have been there five times in the last 15 years, all be it to different areas.  So we looked at our "places to visit" list on the kitchen wall and decided on Malta and it's sister island Gozo.
We are spending the weekend in London before setting off from Birmingham airport on Monday morning. The plan is to spend five days exploring Valletta and the areas around the Grand Harbour on foot or ferry, then we cross over to Gozo staying in a hotel right in the centre of the island.  The idea is that as Gozo is so small we should be able to explore the whole island on foot and then finally we return to the main island and are staying in a fancy hotel in Mdina from where we will explore the rest of the island by car.  Why a fancy hotel?  Because it will be my 70th birthday!
