Carnival in full swing
Lego Artist
We spent the weekend in London meeting some very old friends (in both senses, we have known each other a long time and of course we are all very old) and whilst there went to an excellent exhibition based around street art and graffiti. It is on at the Saatchi Gallery for a few months, we highly recommend it. The picture shown opposite tickled me, a Lego man graffiti artist!
Walking out of Tottenham Court Road tube station on the way to the theatre we stumbled on an amazing video light show called "The Spaces in Between", it is on the Charing Cross side of Centre Point, it is free and I think is in operation until September, if you are in the area put your nose in. It runs all day and evening.
Not sure what Red Indians have to do with Malta
We are now in a nice and expensive hotel in the centre of Valletta but it is nice so worth the money. We dumped our stuff and headed into town and discovered it is Carnival Procession day so the town was full. Most of the celebrations were over the weekend but whilst testing the local beer we heard some music and found a procession of floats and dancers slowly going through the streets. It was a bit too “theme park” for us. The floats were well made and obviously used every year and the dancers costumes were all well made. There was nothing impromptu and we got the feeling it was the same every year but it was good for once turn up when something was happening, we normally just miss events such as this when we are on holiday.
Malta seems very civilised, they drive on the left, have red telephone boxes (although none we have seen actually have a telephone in them) and they have three pin UK type sockets. As no one speaks Maltese they all speak perfect English.
Dinner was almost a problem, with all the celebrations going on the first three restaurants we tried were fully booked but eventually we found somewhere to eat a very nice meal. Things are looking up, tomorrow we will start to tackle the must see sights of the city, stand by for lots of churches and rude comments about the Germans.
