Leaving Gozo
Two old people in their own pool.
Greetings from Mdina , the original capital of Malta where we are staying in a flash hotel with our own private swimming pool. Why is it private? Because we are the only guests (the hotel has 6 rooms called suites cos it's posh), it has not been open long so has not yet got on the radar of the travel agents. Like a lot of old walled cities (Rhodes, Carcassonne, Dubrovnik) the Mdina is picturesque but very touristy (horse draw carts, Dungeon experiences, Game of Thrones etc) but fortunately all the tourists go home at 5pm leaving us in peace and quiet.
Our front door, the main gate into the Mdina on the way back from dinner this evening, thank goodness they did not lock us out.
This afternoon we visited the Natural History museum, lots of stuffed birds and fish of course but also a huge collection of minerals but unfortunately one exhibit was missing and has been since 2004. NASA lent the museum a lump of moon rock, it was stolen from the museum and has never been recovered. It was valued at $5m so it was the largest theft ever in Malta.
There are three highly rated restaurants next door to each other just outside the old city, being greedy buggers we are going to try all three and if the other two are as good as tonight's meal we are in for a treat.
The bad news is the forecast for tomorrow is rain, it has been great so far so we should not complain (but will of course). Fortunately we will have a car so can peer at the countryside through the wet windows.
