Christmas greetings from Antigua, we do hope you all had a great, covid free, Christmas. We spent Christmas morning on the beach (pictured) before having our Christmas lunch outside whilst listening to a steel band. A lifestyle we could get used to although we do have a very significant worry. Whilst every supermarket sells gin we are having great difficulty finding any tonic, everywhere seems to have sold out!
Some of the bigger super-yachts have left port but quite a few seem to be unused over Christmas which seems a terrible waste, they could have lent them to us. We did spot another nice one today called Talitha (picture above) which was built in 1930 and restored in the 1990’s by Paul Getty, the boat is still owned by the family and is named after Paul's wife who died in slightly controversial circumstances.
Despite being over 200 feet long the yacht was hiding in a corner of the harbour, it set sail past the restaurant we were eating in at lunchtime and is heading for St Lucia.
Most yachties normally sail from island to island over the Christmas / New Year break but this requires extra covid testing as each island will want to see a recent test result. An enterprising doctor has set up a clinic in an office in the port opposite our bedroom window and there is a queue of yachties each morning being tested. I suspect we will use his services when we have to return to the UK in a few weeks time.
Today we had a long lunch again (after a visit to the beach) but tomorrow we will revert to our usual routine of exploring somewhere different each day and eating in the evening when of course it is a little cooler.
