Ffestiniog Railway

As advertised, after a day of physical exercise today was a day of rest. At great expense we took  trip on the Ffestiniog Railway from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog.  Why at great expense?

All the cheap seats were taken up with cruise passengers, their ship is docked Holyhead and they are taken by coach to Porthmadog and then catch the train, we thought the cruise curse was something that happened in warmer climes, not in wet North Wales!

So we had to travel first class in the rather grand carriage in the picture from whose panorama window you get a great view of the mountains in one direction and the back of a steam engine in the other.

Still it was a grand day out and it only rained when we got out of the train at the far end looking for some lunch, once safely back in the carriage it stopped again.

Tomorrow we head home but will probably manage to squeeze in another National Trust site to keep our money saving campaign on track, a full report and summary of the short holiday will appear soon.
