Last nights Italian dinner was very good despite the shower curtains hung up to keep us safe. We had just settled into our food when, what we assumed were, a young couple perhaps on their first date sat on the next table. He was dressed in “Chav” clothes, she had a very short skirt and a large percentage of her breasts on display. It turned out they have five children and this was their first night out in months, tonight they had a baby sitter! Looks can be deceptive.
Today was quite strenuous, 16 locks before lunch, Gill was driving I was running up and down the tow path opening and closing gates. Shattered by lunchtime so we deserved a nice bottle of Greek wine and some excellent cheese, pictured below.
We are now moored in Dukinfield where we found a laundrette to do a weeks washing, what an exciting life we lead.
On returning to the boat a local came up and suggested we move to a more secluded mooring as we would get trouble from youths where we were. I am beginning to get the feeling the “neighbourhood watch” type people have amplified stories about trouble on the canal and that is nowhere as bad as they make out. We have had dire warnings about bricks dropped on boats, distraction thefts and general mayhem, this is certainly a scruffier area but so far no problems.
Having said that being cowards we did move the boat and tomorrow will start early as the advice is scumbags don’t get out of bed till lunchtime.
