Just like home. You know what it's like, you decide to go to the seaside for the weekend, the children are all excited but when you get there it is freezing cold and a bit damp so you put on lots of clothes and sit on the beach anyway. No idea who the family are but they were determined to make the most of it, must have some British blood in them.
Although we are moving north with the promise of warmer weather we have been hit by Humboldt current which brings cold water up the coast thereby creating mist and drizzle. In Santiago which is 80 miles inland it is 24C and sunny. The same phenomena occurs in Namibia with the Benguela current.

We are now in a very posh resort called Zapallar in a very strange guest house. It was built in 1906 from a wooden kit of parts shipped out from Sweden. In the 20's a lady called Irene Wilson de Moreno pursuaded her husband to buy the house, they were rich and well connected so the house became a centre for the fashionable people of Chile.
At the time it was the only big house in the area and is in the prime position at the head of the bay. Over the last 50 years many more up market houses have been built, unfortunately Irene's husband went bust in 1969 and then died. Whilst the family have managed to hang onto the house they don't appear to have spent any money on it so it is a bit run down and gloomy but of course the position is still wonderful.

The picture above is of the house from the garden and the one opposite is from the terrace towards the beach.
There is a very popular fish restaurant next door which we are booked into tonight, I might even wear my suit.
The banner picture at the top of the page is the Zapallar life saving clubs competition which was being held on "our" beach this afternoon.

We are not sure what we will do tomorrow, it depends on the weather but on Monday we will head further north in search of sunshine, there are places in the north of Chile were it has never rained, perhaps we can make it rain there too.
