The picture opposite is of the main square of La Serena, quite a nice city which we visited this morning in order, amoung other things, to see an Easter Island statue, guess what, the museum was being refurbished so we didn't get to see it!

We are now up in the Andes in a place called Pisco Elqui at a height of about 4,000ft, all the peaks around us are over 12,000ft high so some serious hills. The sky here is very clear so many of the mountains have telescopes on the tops and in the evening, if you have not drunk too many Pisco Sours, you can see thousands of stars. Perhaps if you have had too many Pisco Sours you can see millions.
We are staying in a cabana, a small holiday bungalow, which seems to be the most popular form of hotel accommodation in Chile. This one is surrounded by flowers and is nice and quiet as it is about 800m from the town where all the tourists go.  We have sun loungers outside but used them this evening to lie in the dark and look at the sky.
