Sunday 18th

Lying in bed this morning at 7.40 contemplating getting up for a pee the peace was interrupted by a band playing outside the bedroom window, I am sure King Charles has the same problem in Buckingham Palace.
I put on a shirt and peered outside to see a band of 40 men serenading right outside our house, they would have seen an old bloke wearing a nice shirt, they could not see I was not wearing any trousers but they stopped playing and moved up the street.

We quickly got dressed and followed them. They seem to be the Spanish equivalent of Wasaillers but it was a bit early in the morning! They stopped every hundred yards or so to wake up another household (picture at the top of the page) until they reached the main square where there were two other bands who presumably took a different route. One was a ladies group of about 20, the other another group of 40 men.

There then followed the Battle of the Bands with each singing a song in turn and then after 40 minutes they finished by singing two songs together. Our Spanish is not up to knowing what they were singing about, perhaps they were rude songs about the English and death to Nelson but it was great fun. After that rude awakening we went back to our apartment for breakfast.
