Saturday 24th

Today we finally managed to do the “tunnels” walk (Los túneles que nacen del agua). I did the walk in 2018 on the Unnecessary Old Boys walking week but both times Gill and I have visited La Palma since the route was closed due to rock falls or bad weather.
The lady in the tourist office told us it was still closed “because it is very dangerous” but on an off chance we asked in the National Park Office and they told us it was open.

The next problem is finding a nice man with a four wheel drive taxi to get us to the start but we were lucky today in getting a ride so off we went. It is a 45 minute drive up a muddy track to the start and then it is a 13km walk around the side of the mountain with a shear drop on one side and a water course on the other. Just to emphasise the risks there is a warning on the notice board (pictured) which I did not point out to Gill until we got home.

It is a great walk. Was it dangerous?

Yes, despite wearing a hat I gave my head a nasty crack whilst trying to avoid getting wet but it was a great adventure. Gill has now done the two classic walks on La Palma (The route of the volcanos is the other) so she can now hang her boots up.

Tomorrow, Christmas Day, they forecast heavy rain and SNOW! Admittedly the snow will be at the top of the mountain above 7,000ft, down where we are staying it will be 22c and wet so we won't be walking anywhere.

So we hope you all have a good Christmas, love Gill & John
