A Great Day which went to plan

The first surprise I had organised for Gills birthday was a Land Rover Experience day. We had a Ranger Rover Sport and a new style Defender. Because of covid the instructors were in a separate Land Rover and either came over and talked us through each obstacle through the car window or via a radio.

The cars were amazing, we climbed and descended bonkers slopes, we even "sailed" up a river, Gill driving in the picture above and left.

Surprise number two was when Gill discovered all the grandchildren (and their parents) in a house up on the moors. She had no idea they were all coming to help her celebrate.

Lessons in crossing a ditch.

Both cars had a sonar system which shows how high the water is when you are fording rivers.

The Defender can lift it's suspension to clear very deep mud, we had to leave the Range Rover behind for this section as it would be grounded

The rollers simulate ice, no problem for either car.

We both found this the scariest bit, driving a £70,000 car at 30 degrees.

and down the other, notice the rear wheel is in the air.

A grand day out.
