Upsetting the Gods

We must have upset the Gods, last night flying in there were lightning flashes all around us for the last 10 minutes of the flight and this morning we had an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, the epicentre was within 15km so the earth definitely moved for us.
In these covid times travel is more exciting, we booked our trip about a fortnight ago and of course have been following the news at home and in Greece in case we are banned from either leaving or returning. Before departure we had to fill in a registration document so the Greeks know who we are, where we have been, where we are going and we were supposed to have a health check on arrival, Gill bought some sweets to suck so she did not cough in the entry queue, I prayed I did not have a hot flush!

When the Greek news announces the daily number of infections and deaths they also announce the number of foreigners stopped at the border each day with covid. So we were expecting to be temperature tested and perhaps cotton buds up the nose on arrival but apart from checking our paperwork nothing – a bit disappointing after all the worry.

Our two return flights to Greece, three and a half hours each way, £107. Three weeks parking £150, all the car park company have to do is meet and greet us and own a field. The airline have to invest in a £40m plane, pay for a highly trained crew and buy a few thousand gallons of fuel, I think I will sell my Easyjet shares and buy into car parking!

I read at the weekend that someone was stranded due to the virus and consequently left his car for 160 days in an airport car park, as I can't afford that sort of expense in the end we decided to let the train take the strain although it does mean we have to stay in an airport hotel on our return as we will arrive quite late.

Today we explored the immediate area around the hotel and selected a likely taverna for tonight (pictured), it is right on the sea front and looks exactly like a Greek taverna should, fingers crossed the food is good. We then did the big city, Lefkada town which is not too touristy even though it’s main activity seems to be sailing, there must be 1000 boats in the marina.
Tomorrow we will explore the rest of the island before heading north into the mountains on Saturday.
