Mobirise

A month or so ago I read a book by an American chap called Henry Holt who, at the age of 67, decided to sail round the world. We 67 year olds need to stick together and anyhow reading about sailing is much cheaper than doing it. It was quite a good read, he sailed through the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and then the Corinth Canal stopping for some time on Trizonia island which is the only inhabited island in the Gulf of Corinth.
I thought I knew this area quite well after several trips to Delphi on the north coast and to Corinth, Acro Corinth (a great walk) and the rack and pinion mountain railway to Kalavryta on the south coast but I had never heard of Trizonia so it sounded like a good place to visit.

To get here we parked our car on the mainland and caught a little ferry across the short distance to the island for the princely sum of 1€ each, Gill seems happy about this bargain, perhaps it is 20€ to get back!
The island is in a beautiful spot, so beautiful that every mozzie in Greece has decided to make it’s home here, it is worse that Scotland in June!
I guess in winter it is barely inhabited, in summer, three small hotels operate, along with a handful of tavernas and cafe.
The name comes from “trionisia” – three islands (there are two other tiny islands in the group).

The balcony of our room overlooks the small harbour, view pictured, 200m behind us is a marina with 20-30 sailing boats all of which seem to be owned by keen yachties, I suspect following in Henry Holts footsteps.
There is nothing flash about Trizonia, just a laid back Greek village with the advantage of no cars, scooters or even a shop! The shop would be useful in order to buy industrial quality insect repellent.
Boris & Co don’t seem to have thrown any spanners in the works regarding extending our stay so we will now look for accommodation for the next week.
