We are now settling into island life in Skiathos, as the guide book warned it is a little touristy but it is quite picturesque, the food so far has been fine and we have tested the frappe and Amstel and found them to be good.
We flew with Jet2, a company whose shares I invested in six months ago when the share price was low despite never having flown with them before. I don't believe they correlate the share register with bookings but the plane was almost full yet Gill and I had our own row, six seats, whilst everyone else was squeezed in.
The airport has a very short runway, fortunately the pilot did warn us, he certainly slammed the brakes on as soon as we touched down, quite exciting.
Door to taverna the journey took eleven and a half hours so we arrived in plenty of time for a nice dinner outside, not something have experienced at home this year.
The first day was spent on acclimatisation, that is slowing down, stopping at regular intervals for refreshment whilst exploring down-town Skiathos. It is very touristy but fortunately not too crowded and the little lanes are a pleasant place to take a stroll and in particular for people watching, especially on the sea front when the large ferries come in.
We have three nights here before catching the ferry over to Alonissos which we understand is less commercial as it is quite difficult to get to.
