On our last trip to Greece in 2020 I mentioned in my blog that after a meal the restaurants always give you a “present”, brandy, tsipouro (Greek rocket fuel) or sometimes cake.

The local taverna where we have eaten twice this week has trumped all of these, before the bill we were given two quite large glasses of tsipouro and 12 honey balls, a local delicacy which are anything but delicate.

Wednesdays weather was, as predicted, very cloudy with warm rain later in the afternoon. We had nothing planned so spent an enjoyable morning watching Greek life from the vantage point of our balcony.

A flash boat arrived, called Mia Zoi (pictured at the top of the page), which can be chartered (why are flash boats chartered rather than hired) for between 45,000€ and 55,000€ a week. Not money well spent this week in high winds and the odd shower of rain, I almost felt sorry for those on board until I saw the main man, he looked like a villain.

Then a catamaran came it to use the water taps. The crew were absolutely hopeless, we came to the conclusion they were Italian based on our experience of Italian crews on the Canal du Midi. All of them rushed around but did not do the job allocated to them so the crew member allocated to fenders kept on interfering (helping) elsewhere whilst the nice boat was banging against the harbour wall, ropes were thrown in all directions but not attached, most spent some time in the water so how they did not end up round a propeller is anyone's guess and the water hose also spent a great deal of time in the sea.
It kept us entertained for an hour.

We have now left the big city (Patitri population about 2,000) and have moved to a small fishing village called Steni Vala (picture below) and are renting a nice villa just outside the town.
At least we hope it is nice, at the time of writing there is no power (the whole village is cut off) which means no fridge, cooker or more importantly water as the supply to the villa relies on a pump.  And just to cap it all it is raining!
