Greetings from Steni Vala where we are staying for the next few days.  The village is pictured above.

You may be pleased to know it has stopped raining, the electricity has been restored and life seems good. We have been exploring the small harbours and bays along the coast and found one with a particularly good restaurant only 2 ½ miles from where we are staying so I suggested we walk there for lunch today.

It was a very long 2 ½ miles especially as we lost the path at one point and got bloody arms fighting our way through spiky bushes. There was also a significant climb which would normally be ok but in 30 degree heat was not a bundle of laughs. Still the food was good, we will probably go there again tomorrow only this time we will drive.

The locals seem very helpful, the guy in the mini market when we were about to buy boring sliced bread in his shop was kind enough to point out the cafe next door sold real bread and the restaurant waiters stop you ordering too many dishes. It makes it a pleasant place to stay and the rule that the best islands are those without airports is quite right.

The most exciting activity on Friday was watching a resident tortoise who popped up whilst we were reading in the sunshine.

We have now booked to move onto Skopelos on Monday
