We have now left Barra on the ferry and then driven through Eriskay, South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist where we are staying for two nights in two different hotels as neither had a room available for both nights.
The hotel we are in this evening is an old shooting lodge, soon after we arrived we took a walk up the hill behind the hotel and stumbled across five deer two of which are pictured above. A very good end to an excellent day pottering up the islands stopping off at points of interest. An excellent local museum, a crash site of a 1944 Catalina in which nine crew members died but there are still the remains of the aircraft, plus a lot of very nice beaches.
One disappointment was the MV Politician pub on Eriskay. Eriskay is world famous for a shipwreck of the MV Politician, a boat which ran aground on the island in the 1940's. You may not have heard of the boat but you will have certainly seen the film, Whisky Galore. Someone on the ferry mentioned having a nice pint in the pub so we were keen to visit, the picture opposite may explain why we did not bother to climb out of the Caterham to test the local brew.
