More old ruins and no more rain

Last night we got drenched going to and from the restaurant for dinner but fortunately the morning brought blue skies and sunshine. Just as well as we wanted to explore the town and then go round another large "Greek" temple site.

The site is called The Valley of the Temples, it cost twice as much as the previous site, had five times as many tourists and was not as enjoyable. I am not sure why this site attracts more tourists other than it is nearer the airports and other must see sites so it is where the tour companies go. Because it is so popular most of the buildings are roped off whereas at Selinute you could climb all over them.

We have now moved onto the highest town in Sicily, Enna, which is at 3000ft. The guidebook says that because of the altitude it is pleasantly cool in high summer, what they mean is it is cold the rest of the year, we have had to unpack our woollies.

After yesterday's rather characterless hotel we are in a swanky "boutique" hotel and have a round bed, not something we have tried before but I suppose it stops you getting out of the wrong side!

Below is a picture of an adjacent hilltop town taken from our bedroom window, it was taken an hour a go, the mist has now come down and the town is invisible.

Tomorrow we plan to move onto the east coast and a place called Catania for a couple of days when, weather and eruptions permitting, we hope to scale Mount Etna.
