Today we have moved on from the north of the island down to the south. As it seems to be low season we did not bother to book anywhere to stay in advance, big mistake, it took ages to find any hotels which were open in Agrigento despite it being on the tourist trail and the hotel we are in is a bit run down and soulless.
This morning we spent a pleasant few hours scrambling over the ruins of Selinunte which has at least eight temples some of which are the largest Greek temples anywhere. Most date between 650 and 409BC but there are a couple of later ones. The site is huge and even though it was a Sunday there were not many people there so most of the time we felt we were exploring on our own.
We were thinking about staying in a town called Sciacca but it seemed a bit dead when we arrived after lunch. It had started to rain by then, so after a quick walk round the town we moved onto Agrigento which was better even thought the rain seems wetter.
Tomorrow we will book somewhere in advance, not sure where yet, it depends on the weather although the forecast is sunshine between thunderstorms.
