A good walk in the hills

It was much colder today, just the right temperature for us. After breakfast we set off on a longer walk than yesterdays, we were warned to get back by lunchtime as a storm was forecast, we wanted to get back so as not to miss lunch!

The lake is at 6,200 ft above sea level and we climbed straight up another 1,200 ft so were puffed out in no time but we were just above the tree line and had some spectacular views. There are 10 mountains surrounding the lake all over 10,000ft high, the original explorer named them 1 -10 using the Native Indians language for the numbers. Over time most have been renamed which seems a shame.

We did get a light shower but were back in time for lunch. I am now writing this in our cabin in front of a log fire watching the rain come down, I think we will give canoeing a miss today.

On three evenings a week the hotel host “Naturalist Presentations in the library”. The picture shows Gill checking out all six books in the library and tonight’s talk is about Craft Beer, perhaps they use natural ingredients. We will go in case there are any free samples.

We have enjoyed our time living the high life. The hotel is not as luxurious as the fancy lodges in Africa but that is hardly surprising as staff costs are rather higher in Canada but the service is good, the food excellent and of course the location is fantastic.  The picture is from our breakfast table this morning.

Unfortunately tomorrow we move on to more modest accommodation deeper into the Rockies.
