Toronto - Do the ROM

The ROM is not a new dance craze it is the Royal Ontario Museum and the must see sight of Toronto.  It has quite an eclectic collection of exhibits including a great many model soldiers so I thought I would show the Coronation above ahead of the real one which presumably will happen next year.

Whilst on the subject of royalty close by the museum is a large statue of King Edward VII. The strange thing about it is that it was first erected in Delhi and the Indian Government gave it to Toronto where it was put in place in...... 1969! What on earth did the people of Canada want with a second hand statue of a not particularly notable king who reigned for 9 years?  I doubt it would have gained any support if someone had suggested it was put up in London - very strange, I am sure the Indians were pleased to get rid of it.

The museum had a particularly good paleontology section primarily as a great many good fossils have been discovered in Canada. It took us most of the day to do all the galleries, three other exhibits which caught our eye are shown below.

We very nearly ended up sleeping on the street last night.  We booked an apartment via Booking.com but the apartment owners used a third party banking system to take the money.  They sent me confirmation of the stay but whilst we were on the train and not contactable by email they failed to complete the transaction and cancelled our booking.  We did not discover this until 9.30 last night when standing outside the apartment block. Fortunately across the road is a very nice (but expensive) hotel which we have made our HQ for the last two days of our stay in Canada. Tomorrow we have another day sightseeing before flying home.
