Today we had a bit of an adventure, off-roading in a jeep around a picturesque valley called the Konavle.
The area has been owned by the same families for over 600 years with each farm being passed down to the eldest son. The records of ownership are carefully documented and our guide was very proud of his pedigree. Very few houses or land has been sold so there are almost no incomers and the planning rules along the coast are also very strict so the area remains unspoilt.
Unspoilt that is if you ignore the jets flying overhead as the main Dubrovnik airport runway is very close by and idiots in noisy jeeps churning up the paths.
We had our own jeep and just followed the guide in his, I expect in summer there is a long line of them but today we were the only customers. The most exciting bit involved crossing quite a deep river, Gill was driving on that section, the picture is of the guides jeep which was ahead of us.
As part of the package we were given lunch with wine, not something you expect on a driving day. Fortunately we did not have any mishaps on the way home.
It was a fun day out. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will hire bikes and cycle in the same valley so expect tales of sore bums in the next exciting instalment of the blog.
It should be nice weather, the picture below was taken this evening from our balcony - Red sky at night.....
