As reported yesterday we set off on a half hour walk (up hill) to a really good gastro pub for dinner last night and miraculously found our way back again to the boat.
This mornings cruise started with some excitement when the boat ahead of us was involved in a rescue. There were two people in a canoe which had capsized, we don't know why, perhaps the canal boat had run them down. This did demonstrate a problem with canal boats, they don't have a swimming platform so getting on board is very difficult, especially in soaking wet clothes. I guess they had wallets and mobile phones in their pockets, not a great day out.
After that excitement we repaired to a pub recommended by Gill's brother Peter in Bath. It is a proper old pub, the sign outside said "Todays Special Offer - Buy two drinks and pay for them both" and the little green sign in the window made us laugh.
As expected Bath is full of tourists as the city has recently been used for a number of TV series and films including Bridgerton none of which Gill and I have seen. But no matter, the buildings are still lovely, especially in the sunshine.
One disappointment, now I have learnt to swim I had hoped to go for a swim in the Roman baths but Heath and Safety have put a stop to that and for your £25 entry fee you just get to walk round the edge, we will give that a miss.
We then had a very nice cool down in the Holburne Museum. We just walked in and admired all the pictures and ceramics, there were a few old masters and a special exhibition of Hockney drawings which were excellent. It was only as we were walking out that the staff realised we had not paid and we had to buy tickets which was a shame as I like a bargain.
One exhibit was a lady's chamber pot from Meissen c 1735 which looked too good to pee in and they think the collector, Sir William Holburne thought it was a plant pot.
