Tuesday was a bit of a wet day. We started by walking round the lake at Trentham where we got damp whilst looking at the interesting sculptures dotted around the paths. As the gardens have been closed during lock down the poor mozzies have been starving, they made up for it this morning feasting on our blood. We then got wetter walking round the Italianate gardens and then even wetter walking back to the boat.
When we lived in Staffordshire Trentham Gardens were often on the local news primarily because the lake had a nasty leak caused by mine workings and the gardens were run down. Since then, presumably as part of the Garden Festival (remember them in the 80’s – Liverpool, Newcastle, Stoke), they have been restored by a property company who have done a good job but of course to make it pay there is a shopping village, hotel, and other tourist attractions which we ignored. I would suspect on a sunny weekend it would be hell
We decided against the Wedgewood museum as that would have been nice and dry so we motored a few miles further along the canal, five more locks and several gallons of water poured over us. Aren't British holidays wonderful!
We are now in position to tackle the Harecastle Tunnel at 9am tomorrow, at least we can escape the rain underground.
