Greetings from warm La Palma where it is a comfortable 22-26c, just right for old people like us. Today was spent in setting up base camp in Santa Cruz. We have a nice apartment in a traditional house in the main street, it has five big windows overlooking the street each with seats which allow us to sit and watch the good people of La Palma walk past, a very pleasant way to while away the day.
The main tasks of today was to book the all important New Years Eve dinner and re-establishing contact with our favourite restaurant. Last time we were here we ended up eating dinner on New Years Eve in the street under an umbrella, we were determined to avoid that embarrassment this time but were beginning to panic when the most likely places were already booked up or closed. Fortunately we found a restaurant which has a table spare (perhaps it is awful and no locals have booked) so we are all set to see in the New Year.
Our favourite restaurant was full last night (and closed over Christmas and New Year) but we managed to get a table for lunch today, a very pleasant 2 hours were spent eating nice food and drinking wine and a local rum. It was almost full, 10 customers, and Carmen who is the owner / waitress touched / caressed me every time she came to the table, covid precautions are definitely over. On Trip Advisor the only negative comments of the restaurant are from customers who don’t like being touched or who worry about the price, there is no menu, certainly no price list, Carmen just tells you what is possible today and you make your choice. It is like eating in someone's house, great fun although since we were last here two years ago the price has gone up from €75 to €95 for the two of us. We have managed to book two more meals there in the next three weeks.
