Reeth in Swaledale

Thursday 21st December
A Testing Day

Today was exceptionally windy, even at the bottom of the dales so we thought it was a good opportunity to test the double glazing in the Tan Hill Inn supposedly the highest pub in Britain at 1732ft above sea level.

Why?  Those of you as old as us with good memories may remember an advert which appeared regularly on ITV (only three channels back then - life was simpler) for Everest Double Glazing.  It featured a chap called Ted Moult promoting the qualities of their glazing in this rather exposed location, you can see the advert here.
In the advert Ted says "You only fit double glazing once so fit the best - Everest" but guess what, the Everest windows have since been replaced with some which are more elegant.  The meat pies in the Inn are very good and the only draughts were beer, they even had a roaring fire going for us.

Our second test of the day was testing our eyesight by driving to Barnard Castle in the footsteps of Dominic Cummings, we were OK and had a windy walk round this fine town, the castle walls are shown below.

Tomorrow, as it is Jakes birthday, we have a fancy afternoon tea booked so stand by for  pictures of cakes in tomorrows blog.
