A Hard Days Walk

Todays plan was to drive up into the Glacier Park and then have a nice walk up to a lake.
The 16km drive to the start was along a gravel road marked "unsuitable for low clearance vehicles" I am not sure what a low clearance vehicle is (a Ferrari or a Caterham perhaps) but our bog standard Hyundai made it with careful driving. On arrival at the car park I noticed that most car owners had constructed a wire fence around their cars, the hire company had supplied nice red triangles but nothing like chicken wire!  Another car owner said that if you left your car overnight then small mammals would eat your brake pipes!

We decided to risk our brakes and set off on a simple 4.5km walk, it was the hardest 4.5km walk we have ever done.

It was mostly up hill but not very steep, we started at 5,500 ft so the air was a little thin, it was about 25c so quite warm and we were worried about meeting a bear round every corner so a little stressful but for some reason we were shattered by the time we got to our target, a lake surrounded by mountains.

Despite a bear being in the area there was little chance of meeting him as we were huffing and puffing so much he would have heard us coming a mile off, supposedly if a bear hears you it will move away, they do not regard humans as food, just a nuisance.

Below is the view from our little Air BnB cabin last night, it is hard to see in the picture but all across the horizon there is smoke from forest fires. A big problem in Canada at the moment.
Tomorrow we move on to Kelowna which has a reputation for wine making, we intend to test out a few vineyards, it is a hard life.
