Sore Bottoms and a nice lunch

Yesterday we drove from the centre of the Rockies west to a town called Kelowna where the hills are much smaller and the big industry is fruit growing and vineyards - there are over three hundred of them. We took a long and meandering route so we could use another free ferry, I do like a bargain when I find one.

We have never tasted Canadian wine before so Mrs Lucas and I decided it was our duty to investigate on your behalf.
And very nice it was too.

We hired fancy electric bikes and the first obstacle was a manic dual carriageway which connects West Kelowna, where we are staying, with the rest of the city.

There are plenty of cycle paths but where they meet roundabouts and flyovers is always a bit of a puzzle for country bumkins like us especially as they drive on the wrong side of the road. That out of the way we cycled about 10 miles along the lakeside past some very fancy waterside houses until we reached the first vineyard, St Hubertus.

It would be rude not to pop in so we tasted five very different wines before getting back in the saddle and wobbling to the Cedarcreek Estate where we were booked in for lunch.

You could tell it was posh as they had a Henry Moore statue outside. We had a very nice lunch with the wines to match before setting off home.

We did come across some osprey nesting by the road and took a great many out of focus pictures of them. The locals did not seem to take much notice, rather like visitors to Shropshire getting excited when the see a kite.

Cycling back we had a bit of electric range worry, the same experience Tesla drivers suffer, our B & B is at the top of a very large hill and we tried to conserve power during the day to leave enough to get back. We were then annoyed as even though we switched to turbo mode for the last two miles we only used half the battery power, we need not have peddled so hard during the morning.
We have the bikes on hire again tomorrow but Gill is claiming to have a sore bum so we will be not going as far.
