A Cycle Round the City

Greetings from Vancouver, a very nice city which is much like Sydney in Australia but with nicer people. We got on our bikes today and cycled round Stanley Park which is one of the must do sights of the city. The lady who collected our E bikes yesterday said our sore bums were due to the upright, lazy, sitting position when you don’t have to work. She is quite right, today’s bikes were manual and our bums you will be pleased to know are ok.
Later we crossed over to Grenville Island on a bathtub like ferry (they run all round the harbour and I have not photoshopped the picture, they are dumpy) for a beer before cycling back to our flash hotel.

Not to be outdone by Copenhagen Vancouver has a bronze “mermaid” statue on a rock only this one is called “A Girl in a Wet Suit”, I think someone was taking the piss.  We were perplexed by the yellow stuff in the docks behind, much research was carried out (we looked at an information board) and discovered it is sulphur from Alberta which is a by-product of oil production.

I see from the news than the UK is suffering from strikes of Postmen, BT engineers and Railway Workers but here life is grinding to a halt as the cannabis suppliers have gone on strike. Every town has a liquor store which is the only place you can buy beer or wine and a cannabis store which supplies weed. You are not allowed to drink alcohol or smoke in public places so both activities must be carried out in secret.

Tomorrow we get up early and catch the ferry over to Vancouver Island, if we were rich we could catch a seaplane, there is a seaplane dock near our hotel with take off's and landings happening every few minutes, I suspect our crossing will be more sedate.

A great statue on the beach
