Today we had a bit of an adventure. The morning was spent wandering the local town Bamfeild, winter population 300, summer population 10,000 and then after lunch I suggested a walk on a waymarked path along the coast.
It started well but then we were confronted with a series of ladders, these are not for the faint hearted, going up was ok but going “over the top” in other words down, filled one with trepidation. No problem said I, we will walk back along the beach. So we arrived on a nice sandy beach where we watched the sea for a while and convinced ourselves that the tide was on its way out. This information was reinforced by looking at pictures on my phone taken at 8 this morning and 8 last night showing the tide well and truly out. It was 2.30 so we were safe walking along the beach as the tide was on its way out. Oh no it wasn’t, we ended up trapped in a little cove with the tide coming in and a steep cliff behind us.
We probably weren't going to die but the choices were sit around for four hours until the tide turned or wade back, getting very wet, and climb back over the ladders. We got very wet.
The snakes? We saw several black and gold coloured snakes who were too fast for us to photograph.
Tomorrow we are booked into a hotel where we can have a decent shower before heading off north for a few more days camping.
